There is a specific kind of magic that happens when a rustic structure meets a refined vision. For this project, Understory Design Build had the pleasure of bringing to life a stunning reimagining by ELD Architecture.
The mission was clear: take a traditional log cabin and evolve it into a fresh, airy, and high-functioning home for a sweet family with young children. By stripping away the clunky and outdated additions of the past, we cleared the way for a design that prioritizes light, flow, and modern efficiency.
Precision in the Build
As the builders and project managers, our focus was on executing ELD Architecture’s thoughtful design with technical precision. We managed the complexity of integrating modern upgrades into a log structure, ensuring the home performs as beautifully as it looks.
The Envelope: We replaced outdated windows and doors; and updated the wall system, insulation and siding; all drastically improving the home’s energy performance while inviting the outdoors in.
The Heart of the Home: Following ELD’s layout, we executed a full kitchen renovation and carved out a much-needed walk-in pantry—essential for a growing family.
Optimized Utility: We reworked the "behind-the-scenes" spaces, delivering better-utilized laundry and powder rooms that turn daily chores into a smoother experience.
Outdoor Living: We simplified the roof structures and removed unnecessary add-ons to make room for a proper screened-in porch—the perfect spot for the little ones to play.
A Unified Effort
A project of this scale requires a high level of synergy. We worked hand-in-hand with the design team to ensure every finish and fixture was installed just right. This wasn't just about a renovation; it was about a smooth, collaborative process that respected the family’s needs and the architect's intent.
"Execution is everything. We took pride in managing the details of ELD Architecture’s vision, ensuring the transition from construction drawings to a finished, breathable family home was seamless and stress-free for our clients."
